The Thomas Horn Beam
Engine pictured right once pumped water through the mains of Ashford in
Kent. It has now been replaced by diesel pumps and so it stands splendidly
restored in the museum at Bredgar. Fully operational the engine can be seen
working under steam power on public open
days.

Pictured left is 'Mighty Atom', one of three steam road
vehicles in the collection. This particular 'Showmans Engine' was used to
generate electricity for a fairground ride. After the fair closed the engine
would probably have been used to pull the showman's living van to the next
fairground site.
