A quintessentially English home where chivalry,
honour and hospitality has reigned for centuries. Penshurst Place has been home to kings and noblemen for over 650
years and was the birthplace of the Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir
Philip Sidney. One of England's finest
historic houses, it has been the ancestral seat of the Sidney family since 1552
and is today home to Sir Philip Sidney, Viscount De L'Isle and his
family. At the heart of Penshurst is the
magnificent Baron's Hall, dating back to 1341. The adjoining staterooms have a
wonderful collection of portraits, tapestries, furniture, porcelain and
armour. The house stands graciously in 11
acreas of beautiful formal gardens. With records dating back to 1346, the
historic garden at Penshurst Place is one of the oldest in private
ownership. Younger visitors will enjoy
the Venture Playground, Woodland Trail, Toy Museum and the many events
throughout the season.
