About Dickens World

Dickens World is an innovative and exciting indoor visitor complex themed around the life, books and times of one of Britain's best loved authors. It takes visitors on a fascinating journey of Charles Dickens lifetime as you step back into Dickensian England and are literally immersed in the urban streets, sounds and smells of the early 19th century. There are a host of exciting attractions within the site, along with a cast of colourful nice n' nasty Charles Dickens characters to meet.

The "Great Expectations" dark boat ride - combining a water and dry ride in one - takes you on a trip from the depths of London's sewers to a flight across the roof tops of London. The Haunted House of 1859 brings you face to face with Ebenezer Scrooge and some of Dickens other ghosts. For our younger visitors, children can have fun on the quest to discover Fagin's Den, a hidden soft play area.

The tall Dickensian courtyards allow visitors to wander freely around the imposing streets, alleyways, and shops, plus interact with the colourful characters who may be hanging around! There is also a themed restaurant, a 4D high definition show in Peggotty's Boathouse, and Dotheboy's School Room revealing the dreaded disciplines of Victorian education. The Britannia Theatre hosts an animatronic stage show introducing you to some of Dickens' characters.

Dickens World is based on a credible and factual account of Charles Dickens works and the world in which he lived. Working with The Dickens Fellowship great attention has been paid to the authenticity of the time, characters and story lines. It offers a new and entertaining way to enjoy Dickens and his characters as well as gaining an understanding of the times and conditions people experienced living in England in the early 19th century.

Dickens World also hosts an array of exciting events for all ages. Please visit our website for information including a performance of 'Great Expectations' on Friday 16th March 2012 and our 'Circus of Light' for our younger visitors.
