An exhibition interprets life at the Castle during the early 20th century when the Astor family were in residence. The interactive exhibition brings the fascinating ‘upstairs, downstairs’ years vividly to life, for while Hever Castle is best known as the ‘Childhood home of Anne Boleyn’, the Astors are responsible for much of what visitors see today. Inspired by our Queen’s Beast topiary, escape into a fantasy world of mythical creatures and meet a carnival of unusual animals.Entry to exhibition included in historic house ticket (Adults £7, Concessions/under 16s £5. Free with National Art Pass). A celebration of the 100th birthday of Whitstable's most famous resident in images and objects from collectors across the UK and beyond, with linked special events in the town. Included in museum entry charge: For the 2013 season Danson House presents Couriers of Taste, an exhibition of contemporary visual art that explores the relationship between international trade, global consumerism and cross-cultural influences. Through a selection of drawings, installation and sculptures the exhibition also reflects on Danson’s past as a house built for leisure and decadence, seeped in the 18th century trade and trafficking of peoples and culture...... Couriers of Taste is part of the SINOPTICON project www.sinopticon.org SINOPTICON is part-funded by the Arts Council England and supported by National Trust’s ‘Trust New Art’ programme.Exhibition entry free with admission to Danson House (Adults £7, Concessions/under 16s £5. Free with National Art Pass).Open Sunday - Thursday, 12pm – 5pm. Celebrate the delights of blossom at Brogdale through April & May. The orchards are a beautiful sight to see boasted exceptional ornamental Cherry Blossom. The array of blossoming fruits grown including Apples, Pears, Plums and Apricots ensures an extended duration of blossom as they all have different flowering times. Added Extra’s April May Danson House is proud to announce a new and exciting exhibition which will be held at the House from 1st April 2013 to 31st October 2013. Through the medium of drawings, photographic prints, maps, masks and sculptures (all provided by well-known artists and curators such as Gayle Chong Kwan, Stephanie Douet, Ed Pien, Meekyoung Shin, Susan Stockwell, Karen Tam, Laura White, Dr Wessie Ling and Ai Weiwei) the Couriers of Taste exhibition allows you to explore how contact between different cultures as a result of exploration and trade during the 18th century has resulted in cross-cultural influences in art. The sumptuous decadence of Danson House provides the perfect backdrop for this analysis of multi-cultural art both given its history (this English house was built using funds raised by a slave-run sugar plantation in the West Indies) and its interior design (Chinoiserie – oriental styles – features heavily). Excitingly, the exhibition also features a selection of fantastically realistic, individually crafted porcelain sunflower seeds which featured in Ai Weiwei’s famous sunflower seed exhibition in the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern. Anyone who owns any other of these seeds is invited to contribute them to the exhibition to further enhance it. So come along and through the artwork take a tour through the different cultures of the world – each room on the top floor of the House contains art reflecting a different culture – from exotic Africa to the 18th century opium dens of China. There is no need to pre-book - just pop along anytime between 12pm and 5pm Sunday to Thursday between 1st April 2013 and 31st October 2013. Access to the exhibition is included within the general admission price which is £7 per adult, £5 for a concession and free for under 16 year olds. National Trust members and English Heritage members also enjoy half price admission (although only with individual not group tickets). In addition, National Art Pass holders go free!
