Knole, the vaunting show house of archbishops, monarchs and the Sackville family, has been the main player in a history of enormous wealth, great art, tense political struggle, scandal, affairs, family feuds and even public riot. It’s a house of hundreds of rooms, and a thousand stories. Yet it’s still a family home for the Sackvilles, and it has welcomed visitors to its state apartments for centuries.

Cross our rolling deer park, pass through our mighty medieval ragstone walls, gatehouses and courtyards, and find inside the delicate interiors of Knole, housing exquisite and fragile furniture, silver, textiles and paintings assembled over centuries. Many of Knole’s pieces tell the story of the royal palaces which were their original homes: walk through the 13 grand state rooms which author Vita Sackville-West roamed as a child and see conservation in action in our audacious Reynolds Room project.

You may walk freely every day among hundreds of Fallow and Sika deer in a thousand acres of glorious, medieval Kent parkland, or come on Tuesdays to see Lord Sackville’s private garden, open just once a week for visitors to see the most beautiful view of the house and walk through a 500-year-old family hideaway.

Knole is great for children, with our many family events including craft and dressing up days.
Finally, enjoy a welcome meal, with special diets catered for, or a wonderful cup of coffee or tea in Knole’s old Brewhouse Tearoom.
