A miniature steam and diesel operated railway to one third of full size situated on Romney Marsh in South-East Kent. With a history of over 80 years this unique attraction is a delight for all ages and operates with all-weather carriages.
The journey from Hythe leads over the delightful countryside of Romney Marsh, through the seaside village of Dymchurch and on to the railway centre of New Romney with its engine sheds, Model Railway Exhibition, Children’s play areas and excellent Heywood Buffet. Continuing the line moves on over the shingle headland, now designated Britain’s largest desert and so to Dungeness home of lighthouses, rare fauna and cottages made from old railway carriages. Here a welcome addition is the Light Railway café with its excellent Fish and Chips.
Most trains are steam-hauled by locomotives over 80 years old, constructed specially for the line and lovingly maintained by our expert staff. In 2011 our 1940s exhibition at New Romney offers an additional attraction showing how this little railway played such an important part in the eventual victory in World War 2.
