This stunning little church is just south of the M2, approached by the lane from Doddington to Milstead. Designed by Edward Welby Pugin to replace a mediaeval church, it was built in 1866-77 at the expense of Thomas Pemberton Leigh, the first Lord Kingsdown. Virtually all is as Pugin designed it glass, furnishings, decorations a cameo of mid-Victorian taste and his only complete Anglican church. The spire is the most distinctive feature in the landscape. |
