About Down House, the Home of Charles Darwin

Set in stunning countryside, yet only 15 miles from central London, Down House is a day out to inspire the whole family. The home of Charles Darwin for 40 years, here you can learn about his life and work and see our award-winning, interactive exhibition. There is also an audio-visual guide available, narrated by David Attenborough. Don't miss the study where he wrote 'On the Origin of Species' and take a walk along his 'thinking path'. You can also relax on the veranda, stroll the extensive gardens or have a bite to eat in the tearoom.
